About the Author

Miles McPherson is the Senior Pastor of the Rock Church and Academy in San Diego, California. He attended the University of New Haven, where he majored in engineering. McPherson was the university’s first player to achieve All-American honors in football and be drafted into the NFL, and he played in the league for four years. After his life spiraled out of control, he gave his heart to the Lord. He graduated from Azusa Pacific School of Theology with a Master of Divinity in 1991. He founded The Rock Church 2000, and currently more than 14,000 people attend its five weekly services. The church has five campuses throughout SD County and over 200 volunteer-led outreach ministries that donate over $4 million of volunteer service every year. He and his wife Debbie have three children and reside in San Diego.

Finally, a book on racial unity that raised my awareness of how well, or not well, I treat others - without the guilt! Biggest bonus – Miles McPherson succeeded in helping me understand my blind spots and provides tools so I can succeed in honoring others of all races. Strong book anchored on God’s diverse design of humans made in His image. Refreshing approach that confronts all the divisiveness that the media bombards us with every day, delivered in a non-condemning tone.

Being bi-racial, and not being African American enough or 100% Asian enough I could relate to the stories in this book. Most importantly is learning how God wants us to be as ONE human race.

This is a powerhouse of a book! Pastor Miles took me on a journey through my own heart. At times it was a gentle incision, and at other times he just grabbed it and shook it to awaken me to my own prejudices. Every single person on this planet should read this and I predict this book will be translated in to multiple languages. God is in every person and this book takes the reader in a step by step manner as to how everybody should reflect the image of God and honor everyone we encounter. The image of God (which is in all of us) will replace the man-made images which are used to demean, denigrate, divide each other. Lift God and labels fall! Thank you, Pastor Miles.

This book is a good read, it's educational and informative. As children of the Kingdom of God we are one in Jesus, we are carefully decorated with beautiful shades and wonderful souls. We are at peace with our shades the closer we get to knowing the uniqueness of our Maker. My longing is for the day when we will dance around His throne in the shade that we were created giving worship in oneness, what a beautiful picture that will be.

Third Option is a great read! Full of honest, self-revealing and personal stories, but also offering principles to live by and practical steps I feel I can put into practice tomorrow. I was both convicted of my own biases and encouraged to grow and get better at connecting with people who are of different race, background or opinion.

All I can say is “wow!” There couldn’t be a more perfect book at the perfect time in our country. Never has our country been more divided and Miles does an incredible job of making sense of why we are divided and, how possible it is to reconcile with one another. This book totally disarms the us vs. them choice we have been given as the only options. There is not a community that does not need this book. There is enough here for the Academics and the ordinary person looking to improve one’s perspective on how they can honor their neighbor better. I was challenged to not only read the book but put into practice the principles he outlined. I loved the homework he gives in each chapter.

Miles expounded on practical ways and means to recognize one’s own biases, prejudices and racial “blind spots” towards people who don’t “look like you.” His newly released book entitled “The Third Option” gives people a 3rd choice wherein you don’t have to choose sides in a racially charged situation of “us against them.” This book was Amazon’s #1 bestseller, released on 9/11. McPherson takes a timeless subject that has invoked so much controversy and provides a perspective that allows humanity to act with honor towards one another. It is not another book on racism - it is a fresh outlook in which we do not have to pick sides, but can 'see' each other with new eyes; eyes that recognize that we are more alike than we are different; that we are created in the same image and that the option to honor one another will provide hope for the nation and the world. I am very picky with what I read and have to say this is worth the time and investment.
