The book is outstanding. If you are purchasing this book for study and are not affiliated with a school, do note that you are not allowed to purchase online access to their Connect product. This, unfortunately also includes the music examples.
I saved so much money buying the international version instead of buying the US Version because the college textbooks are so expensive and I'm a broke af college student
Great book. The only alternative would be the one by Piston. This one is more student oriented with many exercises.Putting 4 stars only because of poor paper quality - it is glossy and all that, but extremely thin. To my opinion paper got a little bit better compared to the previous edition, but still not as good as it should be for the book with this price tag.
Well written and organized college music theory text book. The exercises are very instructive well the worked out examples are demonstrated in a fashion that is easy to gain the lesson well.
Really more than a listener can need or absorb.
This was ordered for college.
I decided to get the international edition to save money, which is very very similar to the US edition. From what I can tell so far, the text, examples, and little quizzes are identical. However, the page numbers are off and the pages do look different (different backgrounds and small details). This is also softcover (whereas the US edition is hardcover). If your prof. doesn't mind it, I would consider this one over the more expensive US edition.Edit: I forgot to mention, despite all of this, the book is still... not the best. Wording is often confusing and the examples often don't help in understanding the material. Clearly the author(s) of this textbook know their stuff about tonal harmony, but they do not know how to explain it in simple terms for a beginner.
I'm wondering if Amazon has the teachers addition of this book. Great book but I still get confused on some things.
